About Niyan Foundation

What is Niyan Foundation?
A compassionate nonprofit inspired by the life of Fareesa Khan Noori, serving underserved children and families with dignity, opportunity, education, practical support, and care. It operates programs in medical equipment assistance, scholarships, and orphanage meal support, and welcomes volunteers.
Who is Fareesa?
Fareesa Khan Noori's courage, joy, and resilience are the inspiration behind the Foundation. Her story is also told in the book The Silence Between Two Heartbeats, available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
How is the Foundation funded?
It is funded exclusively by Fareesa's family. It does not currently solicit public financial donations. Program and volunteer pages should not be read as fundraising appeals. If the funding model changes, the Foundation will communicate that clearly.
What is the Foundation's approach to applications?
Four steps: Identify Needs → Verify & Review → Provide Support → Create Change. Every request is reviewed with fairness and without favoritism, subject to eligibility and available capacity.

Programs Overview

What programs does Niyan Foundation offer?
Niyan Foundation operates four pathways: Medical Equipment Assistance, Scholarship Program, Orphanage Meal Support, and Volunteer With Us.

Medical Equipment Assistance

What does this program cover?
Wheelchairs, crutches and mobility aids, hospital beds and medical furniture, oxygen/respiratory equipment, and post-surgery rehabilitation supplies for children facing financial barriers to access.
Who is eligible?
  1. The child needing equipment must be 5–10 years old (inclusive) at time of application.
  2. The family must disclose full and accurate household income.
  3. A valid, current prescription from a licensed physician/specialist for the specific equipment is required.
  4. A diagnosis report from a qualified medical professional or hospital is required.
How many awards are given?
Up to 2 equipment awards per year.
When are applications reviewed?
Once annually, in March. Applications can be submitted anytime; the stated deadline for the 2027 cycle is December 31, 2026.
What documents are required?
  • Completed online application
  • Proof of child's age
  • Family income documentation
  • Original doctor's prescription
  • Diagnosis report from a licensed medical professional or hospital

Scholarship Program

Who does it support?
Deserving female students in Classes IX–XII.
What are the eligibility requirements?
  1. Female student currently enrolled in Class IX–XII at a public school/college; international equivalents may be assessed.
  2. Consistent strong academic record relative to class/peers.
  3. Verifiable household-income documentation showing financial need.
  4. A personal writing sample, such as a short essay or statement of purpose.
  5. Availability for an interview if shortlisted.
  6. Latest academic transcript/report card.
How many scholarships are awarded?
Up to 2 students per year.
When are applications reviewed?
Applications are reviewed once annually in March. The stated deadline for the 2027 cycle is December 31, 2026. Applications are open worldwide.
How are students selected?
Selection considers academic merit, documented financial need, completeness of the application, and eligibility.
What documents are required?

  • Latest transcript/report card
  • Interview availability, if requested

Orphanage Meal Support

Who can apply?
Registered orphanages, whether residential or non-residential.
What are the eligibility requirements?
  1. Official registration with the relevant government or regulatory authority, with documentation.
  2. Statement of the total number of children in care.
  3. Clarification of residential vs. non-residential status.
  4. An approximate cost estimate for one meal.
  5. A notarized affidavit of authenticity from local government authorities confirming registration, child count, and residential status. English and Bengali versions are available.
How often is support provided?
Bi-monthly (every other month), on a rolling application basis. No fixed annual deadline is stated for this program.

Volunteer With Us

Who can volunteer?
Individuals anywhere in the world who support the Foundation's mission and can contribute responsibly, respectfully, and without discrimination. Remote or location-specific roles may be available.
What is expected of applicants?
  • Describe background, skills, interests, and availability.
  • Respect beneficiary privacy, safeguarding standards, and professional conduct.
  • Some roles involving children or sensitive information may require identity verification, references, screening, or additional training.
Is volunteering paid?
No. Volunteering is unpaid unless the Foundation expressly agrees otherwise in writing, and it does not create an employment relationship. Roles may be modified or ended at the Foundation's discretion.
Is there a deadline?
No. Volunteer applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
What is the process?
  1. Status: Rolling application review.
  2. Review: Suitable applicants may be contacted for next steps.
  3. Placement: Based on Foundation needs, role fit, and safeguarding requirements.
What are some ways to help?
Program support, outreach, events, and community engagement.
Does applying guarantee a placement?
No. Placement depends on current needs and suitability and is not guaranteed.

Applying — General Process

Do I need to submit documents to start?
No. Attachments are generally not required to begin an application. The Foundation may request supporting documents later during review.
Is email verification required?
Yes, for all program and volunteer applications. Verification helps protect applicants and reduce fraudulent submissions. Verification codes remain valid for 30 minutes, and you must use the same verified email in your application.
What happens after I submit?
Each successful submission receives a unique application reference number. You can later use the reference number and your application email address to check application status.
Does submitting an application guarantee assistance?
No. Submission does not guarantee approval. Every request remains subject to review, eligibility checks, verification, and available program capacity.
What if I am a minor applying?
A parent or legal guardian should consent to the submission on behalf of a minor applicant.
